Well after literally years of planning, the masterpiece in my home is complete. Yes the garage!
Now I know you would think that clearly there are prettier rooms in my home than the garage. Perhaps in time I will agree with you. But there is nothing that says Type A like a clean garage. Nothing that welcomes me home each day with such a statement. Nothing that is so truly understated as a clean garage.
I feel like writing Veranda magazine and suggesting they use one of these photos for their next cover. I mean they clearly are not putting just Verandas on their cover so why not a Garage?!?!
Perhaps I should submit this fabulous garage to the ratemyspace portion of the HGTV website? I am still considering this. Please advise. I don't want all others to feel less than equal (who am I kidding?!)
Many (really 2) have written me asking, "Hey Miss, when are you gonna post pictures of the accomplishment?" Well I say, "wait no further!"
The steps to accomplish such a divine state in the garage are very simple. In fact much easier than I had worried about for the prior 4 years. They are:
1. Clean out the garage. The DI knows me on a first name basis now.
2. Hang things from the walls instead of leaning them on the floors. A shovel looks so much cooler when it is hanging on the wall than leaning in a corner!!!
3. Pressure wash the floor. This can be the fun part of the whole project. WARNING do not use the pressure washer on the walls to remove the dirt that splashed up during the washing of the floor. If you do this then see the optional step below.
4. Purchase paint for garage floors. Keep in mind they can tint the paint to the color of your choosing. I wanted the floors to match the walls. No need to cut in the paint that way!!
5. Roll on the first coat. Allow to dry. Keep in mind that this does not require an overnight if you are doing this all in 100 degree weather.
6. Spread sand all over the first coat. No particular order. No need to apply while 1st coat is still wet.
7. Roll on the second coat. Keep in mind that the sand will get rolled into the paint. This will mean that the roller will be of no value after this coat. Beauty requires sacrifice!!!
Now optionally I have put an 1" paint strip of glow in the dark paint on each step. It is invisible during daylight. It has a groovy green color to it. Often when I am bored, I will open the door just to see the cool glow. Yes I really am that boring.
Last optional step was to put up vinyl baseboards. This was done to address the problems created by pressure washing the walls. Turns out the pressure washer can take up paint even on the walls!
I hope you all enjoyed this blog. It really is one of my favorites. FYI - none of you are welcome to use the garage. All are welcome to admire it!!!

What an inspiring blog. Have you considered a job hosting a show on HGTV?
I am speechless! and I am in awe at your garage. I bet you have the coolest garage ever and when I have a garage I will take another look at this picture and post.
- and take notes. I just need the garage first
I'm not so sure "type A" can describe Missy Davis enough.... All I can say is, HOLY CRAP! That Garage is immaculate! Trust me, Jeff and I don't ever need to look at Veranda Magazine to inspire us. Your home is the epitome of what we want!
I would expect nothing less from your garage. And I have to admit as I was reading and admiring your picture of completion, I was a tad bit remorseful Dave didn't have your Type A values. That's a dream room I will have to live vicariously through you for.
you are so "DAVIS"
I have been trying to convert my "BLAND" husband to the ways of the Davis tribe, and he is slowly converting and realizing the serenity that comes through anal retentiveness.
