This whole lifestyle change I am making is quite a surprise to me. I never would have thought I love horses and horse riding...NEVER! Yet there is such an enjoyment and satisfaction that I just cannot describe. I cannot get enough.
Yes I have evolved into wearing Wranglers, spurs, cowboy hats, cowboy shirts, and even a duster!!!
I find myself daily wondering when I get to ride again. I think about the last ride until it is the day of the next ride. It is amazing to see all I can see while riding a horse. The calm, peaceful feelings drive me.
I am happy to feed the horses. I love to go visit them. They always are happy to see me. It is like visiting an old friend.
Now there are some not so positive things associated to riding horses. The biggest issue is poop on shoes. I really dont care for that and the mess associated.
Having said all of that let me tell you a funny story. One of the chores associated with horses is to clean the horse blankets. So off to the laundromat we go. Now I won't name the friend or the laundromat. I will take the heat.
It was hysterical to see two grown women who haven't been to a laundromat in 20+ years begin this adventure. I will try to describe.
First, we loaded the blankets/pads in my car and off we go. We of course stopped for a drink to enjoy while we lounge at the laundromat. My friend was wise enough to have cash to use at the laundromat. I thought they would have debit card machines. No laundromats have not gone high tech yet.
Second, using our leather riding gloves, we load the blankets/pads each in their own washing machine. TEN MACHINES. We wanted to make sure they were each clean. We put a lot of soap in each machine again because of our goal...CLEAN! Finally we put coins in the ten machines ($15 worth) to begin the process.
THIS IS EASY!!!! 30 minutes later it will all be done....oh was I wrong!
A few minutes later the probems began. We forgot to think about the need for the machine to be balanced. Actually my friend had suggested we put two in each machine but shot her down because I wanted these bankets to be really clean.
So we spent the next 45 minutes moving wet blankets as the machines encounter the balancing problems. WATER on the floor....suds...horse hair...get the picture?
Add to it that my friend had to be more of the slave labor than me because of my hand surgery.
Finally at the end, we could smell that at least one machine was broken maybe two. One machine stopped completely on the soak cycle. We decided our adventure needed to come to a quick close.
As we ensured no security camaras, we pulled the very very wet blankets/pads out of the soaking cycle and loaded them in the cart. BUCKETS of water dripped off. We couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Here is how we left the laundromat. Hopefully that says it all.

Well it appears the "unnamed" laundry mat is at 98 W Center. Knowing where you ride and with the power of Google, my guess is that it is **** laundry mat in ********* *****. Look what horse riding has done, it has turned you into a vandal (or was that college?)
(P.S. I love you and if it makes you happy ride away!)
i love you. and i love that it's still easy and fun to make mistakes at, what are you now, 35?
keep riding!
Hmm. We had horses all the time growing up and we never washed our blankets. Maybe protocol has changed? Or maybe we were doing it wrong all those years....
